Frontera Wine Review
Are you someone that enjoys wine? I won't lie – wine is a major treat in my household, especially when my husband comes back with one of my favorite wines. To me, a good wine has nothing to do with cost, but flavor. I have liked wines that have been $5 a bottle, and some that have been $40 a bottle (and disliked some of both, too!). The trick is more finding the mix of flavors that you personally like, especially paired with certain foods. Personally, I am still discovering what I like and don't like in terms of wine. Recently, through BzzAgent, I had the opportunity to try Frontera's new $5 wines. While they weren't free, I was able to take advantage of a mail in rebate, giving me an incentive to try this inexpensive wine.
Frontera Wine: What is It
I'll be honest with everyone, I consider myself an amateur wine drinker. It isn't that I don't like wine, it is that I am still experimenting to see what type of wines I like. Normally, I am big fan of fruit wines and white zinfandels. This was actually the first time I have tried a Frontera wine. Currently, Frontera makes the best selling Chilean wines, which are available in over 120 countries around the world. Each of their wines are made in different parts of Chile, which is known for being a wine paradise to many winemakers due to its climate, making it the perfect place for vineyards. With so many different types of wines available, it is supposed to be easy for anyone to find a Frontera wine they love!
Frontera Wine: Moscato
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to like any of my Frontera wine. The clerk at Kroger told me that this wasn't a very popular wine, and it tasted like it cost. That is not something you want to hear when you are purchasing a wine, especially a $5 wine. After chilling this wine, I was very pleasantly surprised with the results. I was expecting a bitter wine based on what the clerk told me. Instead, I had a nice, sweet wine that was perfect for dessert or just drinking after a meal. I could taste the honey in the Moscato, and it actually reminded me a bit of the sweet mead they usually sell at renaissance festivals. Either way, it was a great tasting wine, something I didn't expect to find in this price range.
Frontera Wine: Pinot Noir
After my great experience with the Moscato, I was really looking forward to try Frontera's Pinot Noir. From the moment we opened the bottle, however, my husband and I had a sneaking suspicion we weren't going to like this wine. It smelled just like the wine given for communion at our parents' church. Nervously, we poured the wine in one of our wine glasses and took a sip…and then very quickly poured it down the drain. Yup, it was just like the church wine. Don't get me wrong, communion wine sometimes does taste good, but this is the bad stuff that makes you wish the church opted for grape juice instead. I won't lie, this stuff is horrible! If you are considering purchasing the Pinot Noir – run. Don't walk, run! This stuff is really that bad and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, especially my readers!
Frontera Wine: Overall
Rating this wine overall is very tricky. The Moscato was delicious, but the Pinot Noir was one of the worst wines I had ever tasted. I know I will likely purchase the Moscato again, giving it an A rating, but the Pinor Noir…well, I don't think you have to guess on my rating for this one. I don't know if an F rating is low enough. Based on averages, I would overall give Frontera wine a C rating, with the Moscato getting a very high recommendation.
Frontera Wine: Where to Purchase
Want to try Frontera wine for yourself? While their wine is a bit hard to find, I found it at my local Kroger Market liquor area. Make sure to call ahead at your local liquor store to see if they have it in stock! Currently, this wine is on sale at Kroger for 2 for $10, at least this was the cost when this review was posted. Either way, good luck and I hope you have a good experience with this wine if you try it!
